Summary:
Constant Contact has been around for a while and has some nice features. Their service could use an upgrade in order to keep up with the better email marketing services.
Highlights:
Constant Contact offers a lot of features at competitive prices. This is its strongest point. They have plenty of templates to choose from that are customizable using "drag-and-drop" features. The user can insert modules into the emails like text blocks, promotions, and other choices. The ability to change colors, insert pictures, logos and links to the user’s website makes it relatively user-friendly for creating an email project that is to the user’s liking.

Constant Contact gives the user three options for importing subscribers: cut-n-paste (email only), form fill in (email + details) and CSV/XLS import. Subscriber details included in standard column headings for their name, address, zip code, along with 15 "Custom Fields" the user can include.

Another nice extra about constant contact is what is offered in their bounce reporting. The bounce report separates between different types of bounces like non-existent address, undeliverable, if a mailbox is full, etc.

Also, Constant Contact’s support staff are knowledgeable and resourceful when calling in or emailing.
Criticism:
  • Constant Contact provides little in the way of a free trial. If you add more than 100 contacts during the trial period (60-days), Constant Contact will require you to supply a credit card number to setup a paid account.
  • Constant Contact is not set up for companies that have several websites that they need to keep track of. They will do well to provide a corporate account allowing for sub accounts.
  • Constant Contact provides little in the way of storage space for images. While other companies provide unlimited space for no extra charge, the standard Constant Contact account allows you to upload 5 (five) images in total. They offer a "Premium Image Hosting" option for $5.00 a month that gives you 25 megs of space for uploads. This is well below the standard of in terms of value for the cost of service.
  • The message footer is fixed and always includes the Constant Contact logo. They would do well to provide a method to remove their brand, even if at a nominal charge.
  • Subscriber management in ConstantContact is not up to standard with other services. The user can only search subscribers based on email address or last name. The user will be unable to search by any other category. Therefore, subscriber segmenting is not offered. The user is limited to sending to the entire list, or creating separate lists for each group as needed.
