Summary:

Benchmark is a very user friendly system with great email marketing features at a decent price. They have a few outstanding features that sets them apart from the top-ranked email marketing services.

Highlights:

The most impressive feature that was not seen for any other email marketing service was the Video emails. The user can drag and drop video (tutorials, product tours) directly into the email.

It is also reasonably priced in comparison to other services. The minimum pricing for 1000 Contacts is $12.95.

Benchmark’s List Builder can help the user place forms on their website or blog to gather people's contact information. Their auto-responders provide the option to manage subscribes, unsubscribes, double opt-ins and confirmations. Segmenting lists into sub lists based on the subscriber's interest, click through and any other relevant information is another great feature of the software, however most reputable services include this as well.

Benchmark’s support includes tutorials walking you through several steps of the setup process, a comprehensive FAQ, searchable knowledgebase, live chat, a glossary of terms and some additional articles about spamming and list building.

Benchmark offers over 150 templates: they have 50 themed templates; and over 100 non themed templates. The user can also create custom templates through their HTML editor.

Criticism:

One of the draw backs to using Benchmark is that they don't offer the ability to use custom fields. This can be an important feature as you begin to target you niche market.
Also, Benchmark's knowledge base is not as informative as some of the other email marketing services. It consists of a simple search interface often does not provide the results you are looking for.
Although Benchmark offers image hosting, you have to pay an additional $5 fee per month for 20 MB. Also, they do not offer survey or RSS feed options.
They do not as of yet have conversion tracking.
